Individual difference predictors of learning and generalization in perceptual learning

چکیده

Given appropriate training, human observers typically demonstrate clear improvements in performance on perceptual tasks. However, the benefits of training frequently fail to generalize other tasks, even those that appear similar trained task. A great deal research has focused task characteristics influence extent which learning generalizes. less is known about what might predict considerable individual variations performance. As such, we conducted an differences study identify basic cognitive abilities and/or dispositional traits individual’s ability learn tasks learning. We first showed rate and asymptotic level achieved two different (motion direction odd-ball texture detection) are correlated across individuals, as degree immediate generalization observed at a learned. This indicates there indeed consistent abilities. then several associated with (e.g., simple reaction time; sensitivity punishment) flexibility; openness experience) suggest difference relationships may provide possible targets for future intervention studies meant increase generalization.

individual qualities and integrative motivation and their prediction of non-linguistic outcomes of learning english in intermediate iranian students: a psychological perspective

abstract this study investigated the predictability of variables from a motivational framework as well as individuals qualities to predict three non-linguistic outcomes of language learning. gardners socio-educational model with its measures has been used in the current study. individual qualities presented in this study include (1) age, (2) gender, and (3) language learning experience. the...

learning style, self efficacy and intrinsic motivation as predictors of iranian ielts reading comprehension

this thesis attempts to measure learning styles, self efficacy and intrinsic motivation as predictors of iranian ielts reading comprehension. in order to address this issue, a quantitative study was conducted on some randomly selected intact students at ferdowsi university. these two groups were assigned as they were undergraduate (ba=91) and graduate (ma =74) students; they were all aged betwe...

assessing metacognitive awareness and learning strategies as positive predictors in promoting l2 learners’ reading comprehension

the purpose of this thesis was to investigate how differently metacognitive, cognitive, and social/affective strategies affect l2 learners’ reading comprehension. to this end, the study employed a quasi-experimental design with a placement test as a proficiency test to find the homogeneity of groups. three classes were randomly selected as the experimental groups (n =90), and each class was tau...

Generalization of multisensory perceptual learning

Life in a multisensory world requires the rapid and accurate integration of stimuli across the different senses. In this process, the temporal relationship between stimuli is critical in determining which stimuli share a common origin. Numerous studies have described a multisensory temporal binding window-the time window within which audiovisual stimuli are likely to be perceptually bound. In a...

Perceptual learning: specificity versus generalization.

Perceptual learning improves performance on many tasks, from orientation discrimination to the identification of faces. Although conventional wisdom considered sensory cortices as hard-wired, the specificity of improvement achieved through perceptual learning indicates an involvement of early sensory cortices. These cortices might be more plastic than previously assumed, and both sum-potential ...
